Q: Is there really a Peter Parts or is this some cutesy marketing gimmick?
A: The world is full of strange coincidences, and this certainly ranks with the best of them. Yes, there really is a Peter Parts, that is his real name, and he is the founder of the company. If you do business with us, there is a very high probability you will eventually meet Peter.
Q: Are there parts that I can't buy from Peter Parts?
A: Yes. We specialize in sight, sound and power products and passive electronic components such as resistors, inductors, capacitors, etc. Visit our Product Catalog and Product selector pages to see our vast selection. We also specialize in medium to high volume contract manufacturing and turn key assembly in China. Except for transistors, we don't handle active components such as integrated circuits or microprocessors, or circuit boards.
Q: Are there really more than 4000 manufacturers of electronic parts as it says in your brochure?
A: There are more than 4000 that we have researched, but there are certainly even more than that. We are continually being approached by new manufacturers who want us to handle their products, so that number is increasing almost daily.
Q: How many manufacturers do you do business with?
A: We have visited and inspected more than 400. We have over 80 that we have approved, and are doing regular business with.
Q: Inspected and approved? What does that mean?
A: That means that we personally visit their plants, monitor their QC/QA procedures, independently check the quality of their parts and their record-keeping systems, and generally just turn the places upside down looking for possible problems. Frankly, most of the companies we inspect just never make the cut. They are not capable of consistently producing the very high level of quality our customers require. So we don't do business with them. As you can see, only about 2% of the 4000 are good enough for our customers, and only a quarter of those get much business from us. They are the best of the best in the world.
Q: Where are the companies that you do business with?
A: Their manufacturing plants are mostly located in the Far East, notably Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Singapore, India, Malaysia and Indonesia. The companies themselves are headquartered all over the world.
Q: Are your prices the cheapest in the world?
A: Our goal is to be your lowest total cost solution! Someone will always sell you something cheaper. You really do get what you pay for in this world, and electronic parts are no different. Our goal is to provide products that have the lowest overall long-term cost, not necessarily always the cheapest up-front price. What’s the difference? Quality. As we’ve mentioned elsewhere on this site, the price you pay now is only the start of your final costs. If poor part quality causes increased product failure and drives your warranty and customer service costs up, you’ve actually spent more on the part, not less. Much of our business is repeat business. That only comes from being a consistent, competitive, quality supplier!
Q: What is Normal Lead-Time?
A: Many products, such as LEDs, capacitors, resistors and diodes, are kept in stock in our California warehouse, but most products have a standard 6 to 12 week lead time.
Q: What is the fastest you can ship?
A: Depending on the item, we are able to ship in as little as 1 week if the manufacturer has raw materials and production space.
Q: How many samples can I get and how long does it take?
A: Typical sample quantities are 5 to 10 pieces, with pilot run and prototype quantities available on request. These are generally available from stock to 2 to 3 weeks.

Q: Where is your warehouse?
A: Our warehouse is just south of San Diego, California, in Chula Vista.

Q: What is your return policy?
A: The manufacturers we deal with are the best in the world at what they do, and they have been hand-picked after considerable scrutiny, so quality is very seldom an issue. But if you find that any part does not meet the agreed-upon specifications within 30 days after receipt, we'll be happy to either replace the parts or credit your account.
Q: Can I visit the factory that is making my parts?
A: Yes, and we encourage those visits. Every factory we use is identified up front and is open to inspection by customers. Hundreds of our customers have visited the factories we use, and you’re welcome anytime!
Q: Do your parts have UL/CSA/CE approvals?
A: Virtually all of our products that require agency approvals have them. The vast majority of our manufacturers are ISO-certified and also have QS (automotive) approvals as well. Q: How do I know that I'm getting the same part I approved?
A: All of our products come with the original markings and logos. No products are ever private labeled. We sell the manufacturer's brand name only, so the product you approve is identical to the one you receive in production.
Q: What is a minimum order quantity?
A: This varies by product, but typical minimums are 5000 pieces per shipment. For items with higher dollar value, exceptions are sometimes made, depending on the item and manufacturer.
